Background & Perspective
I’ve made a professional home in the tech industry. I’m currently a Principal Product Manager at Twilio, where I lead the documentation platform that serves more than 10 million developers. I arrived at that title by visiting a few others along the way: developer educator, video producer, AV/IT support person … janitor if you go back far enough.
I used to worry that my career path had branded me a jack-of-all-trades. Can I code? Sure. Am I an “engineer”? Definitely not. Can I produce a video? Very well. Am I a filmmaker? Well, maybe I’ll win a Razzie someday.
With the benefit of hindsight, I’ve come to view my journey as a strength, because it taught me how to see connections and sequences. I recognize that there are few siloed problems and domains if you zoom out far enough. I’m often pulled into the room to explain how plans and projects fit together, or to identify the areas where they won’t.
I developed my skills by following my curiosity and values. Empowering people led me to Treehouse. Building things and making connections took me to Twilio.
I live in Tualatin, Oregon, a suburb of Portland. When I’m not searching for eyedrops and triaging Slack, I get my cardio in by chasing my kids around the playground. I occasionally fumble against a guitar, and I’m always happy to digress into a discussion about music or comedy.
